The current ReliaG, ChainLift, and SilentMax lines each have their own drum diameter and cable anchor points. Check the model number on the motor head label, usually a white or silver sticker facing the garage interior. The part number prefix, typically beginning with 36645 or 38426 for older drums, tells us which cable length and drum pitch you need.

We carry both OEM Genie drums and cables and quality aftermarket equivalents from DURA-LIFT and Prime-Line that meet the same load ratings. You can safely check whether the cable is off the drum by pulling the red emergency release and inspecting with the door in the down position. Look for fraying, rust, or the cable sitting outside the drum grooves. Do not attempt to rewind or re-tension a cable yourself. The torsion spring above the door holds lethal energy, and the cable is part of that system. A slipped cable often means the spring is out of balance too, which is not a homeowner repair.
